Descrizione dell'iniziativa

DIMAC is a theoretical and practical workshop aimed at investigating the link between human behaviour and the characteristics of interior spaces, with particular reference to multimodal perceptual qualities.Physical places constitute the setting for human relations. As highlighted by neuro-aesthetics, our relationship with spaces does not only consist of a visual contemplation but, through multi-sensory perception, it is an experience that involves the body in its entirety. Through an interactive, relational and dynamic dimension of space and time, we not only observe a space abstractly, in terms of geometry and perspective, but as embodied beings, through the presence of our body, we get in relationship with it. This form of embodied simulation has enormous implications for interior designers.As part of the workshop, two groups of students will be asked to design and accomplish a temporary installation on a 1:1 scale within two disused spaces, which will then be respectively explored under different conditions (set up and not set up). Two other groups will have the task of observing and videotaping the former as they explore and set up the spaces. The aim of the workshop will be to study the different behaviour of the students in the presence of the two different space conditions, using both qualitative and quantitative observation methods. The experimental collection of physiological data will focus on the visual attention, emotional and cognitive state of the participants in their interaction with spaces. The data will be collected, processed and interpreted in relation to the characteristics of the spaces together with a multidisciplinary team of lecturers (Anna Anzani, Barbara Di Prete, Emilio Lonardo, Margherita Pillan). Design indications on the relationship between physical space and human behaviour will be drawn in order to achieve a use of places geared to people's well-being.The expected learning objectives concern a knowledge acquisition on the multimodal perception of space, methods for surveying experiences, interior design strategies, and team working methods.
