Descrizione dell'iniziativa
Two days dedicated to exploring the urban fabric of Milan—not just as a physical space, but as a complex ecosystem where tensions, conflicts, and opportunities for transformation intersect. The workshop, led by a team of professors from Politecnico di Milano and Visiting Professor Claudio Magalhães from Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro on 16th and 17th April 2025, offers master's students in Design and Engineering a unique opportunity to experience firsthand how research and design can become catalysts for social change, shedding light on urban conflicts and contributing, through their own tools and practices, to the construction of peace ecosystems.Participants will map conflicts related to Milan's urban food system through a practical and interdisciplinary approach, identifying the systemic, structural, social, and environmental injustices that generate them. They will have the opportunity to test and implement an "urban conflict map" specifically designed for this purpose and will experiment with strategies for data collection, analysis, and visualization. This workshop is the first in a series of similar activities that will take place throughout 2025, aimed at mapping urban conflicts in different cities worldwide. It is part of the Erasmus KEY ACTION 171 program, involving Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Politecnico di Milano, and Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro.Working in teams, students will produce a infovisual map of urban conflicts related to food systems in Milan, alongside a collective reflection on the role of design in building peace ecosystems.By the end of the experience, participants will have not only acquired concrete tools to collect, analyze, and visualize data but will also have experimented with new research approaches in design as a political and transformative practice, capable of analyzing and redefining urban space in a more equitable and inclusive way.
